Project Vision

Our client envisions revitalizing Brantford by promoting small local businesses and boosting community engagement. Their goal is to increase awareness of what the city has to offer, particularly among students, and to develop programs that foster this connection.

The Challenge

Limited transportation options pose a significant barrier, reducing student involvement in the city’s activities and limiting access to local businesses.

Research Plan - Timeline

A nine-week timeline running from October 1 to December 2, with each week describing the research or prototyping task due

This timeline diagram illustrates the nine-week research plan for our project. It begins with surveys, interviews, and city outreach (Week 1), followed by compiling insights into a central document (Week 2). Weeks 3–5 focus on team discussions, selecting engagement formats, and beginning prototype development. Weeks 6–7 emphasize data visualization and refining the prototype. By Week 8, the prototype nears completion, alongside preparing a slide deck and presentation practice. Finally, in Week 9, all deliverables are complete, and the team is fully prepared to present to both the client and the class.

User Persona

Persona card for Solomina Johnson, 18, first year UX Design, from the Greater Toronto Area, with bio, transportation preferences, goals, frustrations and wants

This user persona represents Solomina Johnson, an 18-year-old first-year UX Design student from the Greater Toronto Area. She is new to Brantford and splits her time between outdoor activities like running and sports, and indoor hobbies like playing video games in the winter. Solomina’s goals include exploring the city, staying active, discovering local restaurants, and finding community spaces to connect with others. However, she faces frustrations such as not knowing where to go, feeling stuck in her dorm, and being hesitant to explore alone. She wants accessible options like an outdoor running track, a hiking club, more student discounts, and restaurants closer to campus to better support her university experience.

Concept Sketch

A hand-drawn wireframe on lined paper showing a Laurier Brantford Community page with menu, map, promotions and search, a scavenger hunt panel and a community post panel

This concept sketch illustrates the homepage design for Campus Connect, a platform connecting students with the local community. The layout shows a clean, welcoming interface featuring a clear navigation bar, a search function, and prominent sections for student discounts, events, and community resources. The homepage also includes quick links to restaurants, outdoor activities, and student clubs, helping new and returning students easily explore opportunities in Brantford and stay engaged with both campus and city life.

Medium to High Fidelity Prototype

The Campus Connect homepage: Laurier branding, a search bar, a welcome panel over a photo of the Brantford campus, an Upcoming Events list and a Quick Links column

This image shows the medium-to-high fidelity prototype of Campus Connect. The wireframe presents a structured layout with defined navigation menus, interactive buttons, and organized content sections. Key features such as the homepage banner, search bar, student discount listings, community events, and quick-access links are visually mapped out, giving a clear sense of the site’s functionality and user flow. The prototype demonstrates how the final design will look and operate, bridging the gap between early sketches and the finished product.
